Judge Andrew Dixon

Recently, a conversation about networking was had with Judge Andrew Dixon of
Tallahassee, Florida about the topic of networking, specifically at networking

Hon. Andrew L. Dixon, III is originally from the Boston
area. He holds both a Juris Doctorate from St. Thomas
University in Miami Gardens and a B.A. in Political Science
from the George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
In August 2010 Judge Dixon was appointed to his current
position as an Administrative Law Judge with the Social Security
Administration in the Tallahassee Hearing Office. Responsible for
hundreds of Social Security disability cases, he presides over 15-20
administrative disability hearings per week and directs attorneys in his
office how each decision should be written. In 2012 he briefly served
as Acting Hearing Office Chief Administrative Law Judge during which time he managed an office of
staff of 30 employees, made personnel decisions and coordinated emergency inclement weather
office closing procedures.
From July 2014 to June 2015, Andrew proudly served as President of the Tallahassee
Barristers Association, a volunteer bar association comprised of mainly Black attorneys and judges in
and around the capital city. During his presidency, the Barristers mentored law students from Florida
State University’s College of Law, co-hosted a Voters Education Forum, held its annual Scholarship

Contest/Luncheon and celebrated its 40 Anniversary with a year-end banquet.
Prior to his appointment, Judge Dixon served for three and half years as an Assistant State
Attorney with the Office of the State’s Attorney, Broward County, Florida and later as an Attorney-
Advisor with the US Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Medicare Hearings and
Appeals, where he authored hundreds of Medicare Appeals decisions for various Administrative Law
Judges.
Judge Dixon has continued to serve as a mentor to law students at St. Thomas as well as
other law schools in both South and North Florida. He holds membership in the Virgil Hawkins
Florida Chapter of the National Bar Association, the National Bar Association’s Judicial Council and
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He is also a past member of the GW Alumni Association Board of
Directors and a current Executive Board Member of the GW Black Alumni Association, having
founded its S. Florida Regional Chapter. His wife, Gecelyne, holds a Juris Doctorate from Florida
A&M University’s School of Law in Orlando and together they have three daughters.
