Networking Receptions
Table Networking
NAM
E
If you are at a networking event where you'll be seated at a table with others to
eat or to listen to a speaker, sit down and act as if you were the “host” of that table.
Introduce yourself and then ask for the others' names as you offer your hand to those
seated closest to you. Give a nod to the people on the opposite side of the table
furthest from you. As people come to the table, make the introductions. Acting like the
host of the table shows confidence and if you act like you have something to offer,
people will probably assume that you do. Ask one person for their business card
(perhaps the person closest to you), and they'll probably ask you for yours. Other
people at the table may be reminded that they also want your card and will probably
likewise ask.
Do not simply dump your business cards on the table assuming people will pick it
up. They may not see it and it is better if you establish a connection with them first.
